Palo Alto Barcelona

WHO WE ARE

Palo Alto is a unique space in the city of Barcelona, born from the rehabilitation of an old factory from 1857 and surrounded by gardens that give it a unique character. An architectural and cultural heritage of the city, it now hosts fifteen companies from the creative sector —architects, photographers, artists and design professionals— and offers indoor and outdoor spaces for events, filming, photo sessions and activities mainly linked to creativity.

The Palo Alto Center for Artistic and Cultural Production Private Foundation, created in November 1997, aims to promote and manage cultural and artistic activities, promote the projection of Palo Alto with educational and institutional visits, provide spaces for exhibitions, create a cultural fund and ensure the preservation and rehabilitation of the factory complex. Currently, the Foundation is made up of the president, the vice president and eight members, with an executive director and a team of six professionals responsible for the management and maintenance of the space.

Ex Machina proposes an itinerary through an everyday element such as the razor that acts as a cultural, material and technological condenser of the interactions of being human with their environment. A careful selection of objects explores how the idea of progress and the impact on the environment filter down to the most intimate actions of the body, and how design objects become vehicles of values, imaginaries and conflicts of an era.
