Art in Connection
Emerging art from Catalonia and contemporary Ukrainian creativity.
On May 8th and 9th, we are organizing the Poblenou Open Day “Art in Connection” , an event dedicated to contemporary creativity, which will bring together emerging art from art schools in Catalonia and proposals from the Ukrainian cultural scene.
With a program on May 8 from 5 pm to 9 pm and on May 9 from 10 am to 8 pm where you will find:
On the one hand, you can visit the exhibition “Fem art”, a collective show of final projects by students from various art and design schools in Catalonia. The exhibition brings together previously unpublished works of photography, fashion, ceramics, jewelry, painting and sculpture , with the aim of highlighting young talent and highlighting the role of these studies within the creative industries.
The day will be complemented by UA Culture Lab , a meeting dedicated to contemporary Ukrainian creativity that combines exhibitions, literature, music and participatory workshops open to the public. The exhibition is based on the tradition of vytynanka, the Ukrainian art of cut paper, reinterpreted in large format by artist Daria Alyoshkina.
During May 9 , the public will be able to participate in creative workshops for all ages, attend book presentations, enjoy music with DJs and discover small-format artistic work and Ukrainian books in Ukrainian, Catalan and Spanish.
The event is organized by the Ukrainian Cultural Center , in collaboration with the Palo Alto Foundation, Test Gallery, Litera Club and Poblenou Urban District. All proceeds from the two days will go to the Ukrainian Cultural Center of Barcelona, which promotes the dissemination and development of Ukrainian culture and values, fostering joint creativity, cultural exchange and the integration of the Ukrainian community in a local and multicultural environment.
Exhibitions
Endless path
An exhibition of vytynanky by Daria Alyoshkina
May 8 – 5:30 PM–9:00 PM | May 9 – 10:00 AM–8:00 PM
XYZ Room
Endless Path is an exhibition of vytynanky — the traditional Ukrainian art of paper cutting — by artist Daria Alyoshkina, presented as part of UA Culture Lab, an initiative of the Ukrainian Cultural Center. The path is the central concept of the exhibition: a metaphor for the long and complex journey of the Ukrainian people through the centuries, marked by the struggle for independence and the preservation of their cultural identity.
This path is also real: Daria Alyoshkina’s works have already traveled to 22 countries , carrying with them the memory, symbols and beauty of Ukrainian tradition. The title of the exhibition is inspired by one of the pieces presented, The Path, where the rhythmic repetition of the motif recalls small steps forward: a continuous process that speaks of hope and the search for answers. Every journey is made in steps. This exhibition honors each of them.
Daria Alyoshkina
Daria Alyoshkina is a Ukrainian artist who has revived and reimagined the ancient art of vytynanka within a contemporary context, bringing it to an international audience through exhibitions and projects around the world. Her interest in this tradition was born during her childhood in a Ukrainian village, where she learned to understand its symbols and relationship with nature. Trained as a sculptor, she holds a Master’s degree from the Lviv National Academy of Arts and has collaborated with the Ukrainian and Polish editions of Vogue , as well as with jewelry brands such as Cartier, Oberig and Sowa.
With the support of Test Gallery Barcelona.

Creative children’s workshop inspired by the polar world, where children will discover the story of El Bocado Polar and create their own polar friend through crafts, drawing and play. Designed for children aged 3 to 8 and in small groups, the activity offers a space to imagine, experiment and express themselves freely. The workshop is led by illustrator and author Helena Twose, who through her stories invites children to explore nature, travel and imagination.
